How old does my baby have to be before I can swim?
- We enrol babies has young as 9-10 weeks of age (at the start of a term).
- The oldest new beginner intake is approx 9mths old.
- You can commence swimming after attending the Introductory Seminar and confirming your place in the program.
Do I have to attend the seminar?
- Yes, our seminar is a pre-requisite before you can commence swimming.
- Both parents are encouraged to attend.
When are the seminars held?
- Seminars are held in the evenings, regularly throughout the year and prior to the start of each term.
How long can my child stay in the program?
- Children can stay in the program until 5 yrs of age.
- This does not mean they must leave immediately on turning 5. Consideration is given to their individual progress, ability and emotional readiness.
Will my baby swim with others the same age?
- Babies are placed in developmentally related stages and similar age groups (For example, new beginners, 3-6 months of age)
- Core groups are encouraged to stay together each term to strengthen social bonds.
What happens if I fall behind or progress ahead in my class?
- Although there are guidelines for development, each child develops according to their biological readiness, not necessarily their age. Our program therefore creates the space needed for parents and their babies to progress at an individual, comfortable pace.
- Teachers will adapt lesson plans to suit individual needs while still maintaining group dynamics.
How will my baby learn to swim?
- Children learn how to swim through skill repetition and extension. Mastery of skills is acquired according to their developmental stage and their unique personality.
- Our progressive learning system delivers all skills and techniques through the medium of play. Play is learning and learning is play.
- Integral to the program is creative, individualised materials and toys to promote continuous and joyful learning.
What if my baby doesn’t like it?
- Babies love the water and we have not yet met a baby that doesn’t. It is important to understand there maybe many factors to consider in the rare event a baby becomes unsettled or upset.
- Our teachers are very experienced in providing effective support and strategies to help parent’s work through challenges arising with their baby in the water.
- A relaxed and nurturing atmosphere provides an ideal, playful environment for babies to enjoy the water.
